Dungster Mobile Composting Facility
Dungster LLC Mobile Composting Facility - Mobile facility complies with NRSC Code 317
Overview:
The US Department of Agriculture has established several Conservation Practice Standards. The “Composting Facility” standard is described in NRSC published Code 317. The Dungster composting device contains and facilitates the aerobic microbial decomposition of manure, other organic material, or both, into a final product sufficiently stable for storage, on farm use, and application to land as a soil amendment as described in Code 317. This solution will accomplish the following purposes:
· Reduce water pollution potential
· Conserve energy by reducing mass and improving handling characteristics of organic waste solids
· Transform organic waste into a soil amendment that improves soil health, provides slow-release plant-available nutrients, and suppresses plant disease
The Dungster solution complies with Code 317 in all aspects for an “at scale” specific solution. This is a mobile facility because the composting vessels are mobile, being repurposed roll-off dumpsters. Composting agriculture waste is a well-established disposal method. In-vessel aerobic composting is often cited as a preferred method for environmental and technical reasons.
Agriculture provides many products and services for society. Small-scale ag businesses are seen by many as a preferred solution as they have many economic, health and organics benefits. These small animal husbandry and agricultural businesses have waste streams that need to be managed. For an animal boarding operation, the concern is focused upon the manure management. This segment of our Ag industry has been difficult to bring into compliance with environmental best management practices due to their large census and broad distribution cross the land. This Dungster commercial composting facility provides an affordable and effective solution for small to medium scale farms. The speed and ease of deployment are two equally appealing aspects; less than 10 weeks is what separates the decision to compost from the first batch of compost. This is because many of the inputs are commercially available … for example, the common roll-off dumpster used as the composting vessel.
This in-vessel composting method is preferred for sound environmental reasons. This is because the manure and bedding are off the ground and out of the open elements mitigating the leaching of nutrients. Operationally, the farm can move away from the common practice of storing manure as is published is Code 313, Waste Management Facility. With the right training and equipment manure and soiled bedding move from the stall, often still warm from the animal, into the readied composter. Avoiding storage, as a step, avoiding pollution potential, eliminates costs and the need for another material handling step.
This solution also complies with or can be made to comply with the other reference NRSC Codes. For example “Roofs and Covers” (No.) (367) Conservation Practice Standard permits the use of polyethylene covers which are used by Dungster. Likewise, leachate discharge can be managed to comply with “Waste Transfer” code 634 either with ancillary Dungster products or the facility’s concrete foundation.
